FROM SHEPHERD TO KING

From nothingness to significance. This is a brief testimony of God's grace in my own life, as written in 2002 at the height of the devastating land grab in Zimbabwe

SALT OF THE EARTH

Jesus instructed us to be the salt of the earth (Matthew 5:13). What is it deep within a person’s being that keeps him positive while all else is crumbling around him?

EMBRACE THE WILDERNESS, CHAPTER 1

The wilderness is generally a place one wishes to avoid. If it has to be, then at best some might tolerate it. But to desire it … long for it … embrace it!?

Yet it is in the wilderness that we hear the most passionate words of kindness imaginable. This is written to encourage and give direction to those who are in times of deep turmoil.

A BOESMANLANDER'S STORY OF DROUGHT

Towards the end of 2005, Johnnie’s marriage proposal was as follows: “Darling, there is a drought, and I don’t know how long it will continue, but...will you marry me?” And so our fairytale began – Johnnie, who knew and feared the drought and its consequences, and me, who thought that the Boesmanland only needed faith.

CLIMBING OUT OF A DEEP HOLE

A few years ago, we were digging a well, and I decided to climb down to inspect the bottom. It was already about 12-14 metres deep, and the top third had spikes hammered into the side of the shaft to make climbing easy. For the rest of the way, footholds had been haphazardly cut out of the side walls. So down I went.

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF EPHESIANS 1:9,10 IN THE CONTEXT OF THESE LATTER DAYS

Eph 1:10 "... the summing up of all things in Christ ..." How AWESOME. What does that mean for us

FAITH AND HOPE

“For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one also hope for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it.” (Romans 8:24,25)

THE REMARKABLE LINK BETWEEN FAITH AND WEAKNESS

The original article was written one month after we were evicted from our farm in Zimbabwean. During the turmoil of that time I wrote this to help people understand the deep spiritual battle that one goes through at such a traumatic time. I trust that it will be an encouragement to you, whatever your personal battle might be.

WHEN I AM WEAK

Weakness is not generally a sought-after attribute, and weaklings are usually mocked or looked down upon. Most of us are really only mediocre - that is of course from the world's point of view. Yet the apostle Paul often writes about his own weakness, saying that those times of weakness were actually his times of greatest strength..

BUT GOD

How wonderfully God is able to turn things for us. This is a testimony showing God's miraculous intervention at times when we could go no further in our own strength.

IT'S ALL IN THE EYES

Written in 2002 as an encouragement to farmers during the Zimbabwe farm invasions.

Mat 6:22 “The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness.”

O TASTE AND SEE THAT THE LORD IS GOOD

“Taste (experience for yourself, feel, perceive, undergo) and see that the Lord is good,” (Psalm 34:8), the Lord reminded me of a word that He had given me about 30 years ago; since then, this word has become a remarkable kingdom mindset for me.

THE BATTLE BETWEEN FAITH AND FEAR

God has not given us a spirit of fear. Fear does not come from God. When we look at Jesus’ life on earth and even various events where people experienced seeing Jesus or an angel, and they were frightened, the Lord would immediately say:

“Fear not.”

WHEN ALL IS TAKEN, THERE IS STILL FAITH

“When God has big plans, faith always gets the contract” (Gypsy Smith). This statement has caused a stirring in my spirit, and over the past few years I have found myself constantly aware of the truth of those words.
